Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences

Southeastern Louisiana University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor level in the Department of Biological Sciences to begin in August 2022. The successful candidate will teach Medical Microbiology (for allied health science majors), Pathogenic Microbiology, and other biology courses, e.g., Microbial Ecology, based upon the applicant’s area of expertise and needs of the Department. The successful candidate is expected to seek out external funding to support a long-term research program that provides opportunities for undergraduate and MS students.

Southeastern Louisiana University is primarily a teaching institution whose mission is successful education of undergraduate and graduate students. The Department of Biological Sciences has more than 850 undergraduate majors in six concentrations. The Department has excellent research and teaching laboratories as well as other research facilities including a roof-top greenhouse, a Vertebrate Museum, access to the LONI high performance computer cluster, a vivarium, the Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station and the SLU Microbiology Testing Laboratory. The Department has approximately 25 graduate students in the MS degree program. The University is positioned in a biologically diverse region with ample opportunities for research in terrestrial, freshwater, or estuarine habitats.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorate in any area of the biological sciences by hire date. Record of scholarly accomplishments should reflect expertise in microbiology.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Postdoctoral experience is preferred.
