Tenure Track Faculty Position in Inflammatory Airway Diseases

The Department of Physiology & Pharmacology in partnership with the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary invites applications for an academic position in the area of inflammatory airway diseases. The successful candidate will be appointed to a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level.

Qualifications include a PhD or equivalent and relevant postdoctoral experience. The preferred candidate will have an established track record in the pathogenesis of, or therapeutics related to, inflammatory/infectious airway diseases. Potential areas of interest include airway epithelial biology, host pathogen interactions in the airways or mucosal immunology. Expertise in analyzing large datasets would be expected for anyone engaged in genomic/transcriptomic/proteomic avenues of research. It is expected that the successful candidate will collaborate with other members of the Airway Inflammation Research Group, as well as collaborating, as appropriate, with epithelial biologist/mucosal immunologists in other Research Groups in the Snyder Institute.   The successful applicant should demonstrate the potential to lead an independent research program, to obtain CIHR grant support, and to be able to teach effectively at the University level.

Applicants at the Assistant Professor level must show a track record of first or corresponding author publications in medium to high impact journals.

Applicants at the Associate Professor level must show evidence of a strong publication record, as well as a demonstrated ability to obtain peer-reviewed funding.

The applicant will be recruited to the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology and will align with the research priorities of the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases.  The successful applicant is expected to develop an independent research program within a multidisciplinary research environment. It is anticipated that the research program and expertise used will complement existing strengths in the Department and Snyder Institute. The potential to develop an independent research laboratory with a training program of high impact will be critical. The successful applicant will have 75% of time protected for research. A competitive start up package is available for the successful applicant. The selected candidate is also expected to commit to a modest level of teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. Prior experience with lecturing, course development and coordination will be considered an asset. A successful applicant will also be expected to make some contribution to areas of service.
