Summary
The Research Technician III provides responsible and skilled technical assistance in support of research projects by completing experiments pertaining to cancer research. The Patient-derived Xenograft and Advanced In vivo Models Core is an Advanced Technology Core Laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine. Our Core provides the resources necessary for laboratories to establish patient-derived tumor models in animals to be used for in vivo research projects.

Job Duties
- Prepares and conducts in vitro and in vivo laboratory research experiments.
- Collects, compiles and critically analyzes data.
- Designs in vivo animal studies, create templates in StudyLog, and lead study.
- Performs blood collection and surgical procedures on rodents.
- Administers treatments to rodents by oral gavage, intraperitoneal injection, or subcutaneous injection.
- Proficient in cell culture techniques.
- Assists core director with billing and other administrative tasks.
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
- Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
- Reviews literature for novel in vivo models that may be useful to the core.
- Requires the ability to complete procedures and properly record results.
- Performs flow cytometry experiments.
- Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and GraphPad software.
- Must be fluent in verbal and written English.
- Familiar with microscopy.
- Familiar with common molecular biology techniques.
- Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Small animal handling experience.
