The Netz Lab is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to lead the development of top-notch electrochemical sensors for real-time molecular monitoring in the brain of rodents. For more information regarding this lab please visit: https://netzarroyo.jh.edu
To fulfill this position, we are specifically seeking neuroscientists with extensive experience on Fast Scan Cyclic Voltammetry (FSCV), general animal surgery and the use of stereotaxic equipment, tissue staining and brain histology. This position is ideal for a highly independent neuroscientist interested in leading the development of novel electrochemical biosensors enabling real-time monitoring of therapeutics in brain compartments. In addition, the position offers the possibility to collaborate with experts from the Lieber Institute for Brain Development, a non-profit research center devoted to the basic understanding and treatment of brain disorders. However, the principal effort of the applicant will be devoted to biosensor development and in-vivo measurements of drug transport kinetics in the brain. The ideal candidate should have:
A Ph.D. in neuroscience or related fields, with thesis work focused on anesthetized and awake in-brain molecular measurements via Fast Scan Cyclic Voltammetry.
Extensive experience fabricating, testing and calibrating carbon-fiber electrodes.
- Experience with rodent perfusions, brain tissue staining and histology.
A deep understanding of fundamental electrochemistry and carbon fiber electrodes.
Well-versed in quantitative in vivo FSCV.
Experience working with RNA, DNA, proteins and/or other biomolecules.
Some pharmacology experience.
Programming skills (Python, Matlab or other).
Expected start date: June 2022 or earlier. Starting salary: NIH-set stipends, commensurate with experience + benefits.
