The Department of Physiology and Biophysics in the Faculty of Medicine (medicine.dal.ca/physiology) invites applications for a faculty position in Endocrine/Neuroendocrine Physiology. We are seeking an outstanding basic scientist with expertise in women’s reproductive health, particularly in relation to obesity and metabolic diseases. The successful candidate will hold a tenure stream appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, to start July 2022 (negotiable).

Applicants should have a record of excellence in endocrinology/neuroendocrinology and women’s reproductive physiology/pathophysiology, as evidenced by strong peer-reviewed publications and awards. Required qualifications include a PhD in a related field and a minimum three years postdoctoral experience.

The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program studying fundamental cellular, molecular, and/or physiological mechanisms underlying female reproductive health. Priority will be given to candidates studying the connection between obesity, metabolic diseases, and reproductive outcomes, though research programs in other related areas will be considered. The research program should complement existing strengths within the Department of Physiology & Biophysics, and lead to research collaborations within the Department, as well as with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology (medicine.dal.ca/obstetrics), and/or the Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism (medicine.dal.ca/endocrinology).

Current research strengths in the Department include neurophysiology, endocrinology and neuroendocrinology, molecular and cellular physiology, cardiovascular physiology, and respiratory physiology. We are committed to the success of our faculty and provide adequate laboratory space, start-up funds, and access to state-of-the-art core facilities. (Please see medicine.dal.ca/research-dal-med/facilities.html.)

The successful candidate should have exceptional communication skills and will be expected to supervise graduate students and contribute to the teaching activities of the Department.
Applications must be submitted online and include a cover letter, a Curriculum Vitae, a research statement (maximum 5 pages), a teaching statement that outlines experience and interests (maximum 2 pages) and contact information for three referees.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority. Dalhousie University is committed to fostering a collegial culture grounded in diversity and inclusiveness. The university encourages applications from Indigenous persons, persons with a disability, racially visible persons, women, persons of a minority sexual orientation and/or gender identity, and all candidates who would contribute to the diversity of our community.
