What You Will Achieve

This position will reside within the Global Pathology & Investigative Toxicology (GPIT) group in Drug Safety R&D (DSRD). We are seeking a motivated Scientist to assist in the management of investigative and regulatory studies in support of Veterinary Pathologists as they collaborate with Research Unit (RU) scientists and Comparative Medicine (CM) personnel. Responsibilities will include scheduling and executing studies, tracking and communicating study progress, scanning and shipping glass slides, processing chain of custody documents, and occasional participation in necropsies to support CM colleagues in collecting tissue specimens. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and with GPIT team members, while having strong organizational and communication skills to foster effective collaborations with Pathologists, RU scientists and CM colleagues on project teams.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Perform all regulatory responsibilities in compliance with applicable regulatory standards including Good Laboratory Practices and animal welfare regulations
  • Communicate with RU scientists to schedule exploratory, regulatory, and investigative studies in coordination with Pathologists and Global Pathology Operations Lead
  • Provide project management support to DSRD pathologists, to include coordinating and executing studies and tracking study progress
  • Occasionally participate in necropsies, assisting CM personnel in the collection of tissue specimens
  • Scan glass microscope slides on a digital whole slide scanner
  • Coordinate the shipment of glass microscope slides, maintaining appropriate chain of custody documentation


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Biotechnology or related field with ≥ 3 years relevant necropsy and/or histology experience and ≥ 1 year of project management experience or previous experience or responsibilities as a lab manager or a lab administrator OR Master's degree with ≥ 2 years of relevant necropsy and/or histology experience and ≥ 1 year of project management or lab management experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively interact, contribute, and communicate with the team



Nice-to-Have
  • Familiarity with chain of custody procedures and documentation
  • Experience with whole slide scanning process and instruments (Leica AT2)


NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Occasional travel to the Groton, CT site for training and interactions with laboratory personnel.
