Pfizer's BioMedicine Design (BMD) Biotherapeutic Expression and Purification group (BEP) is seeking a creative and driven senior candidate to lead RNA Therapeutic discovery technologies and RNA production process development. The candidate will capitalize on their experience with mRNA and self-replicating RNA to develop processes for delivery of in-vivo grade RNA therapeutics supporting the RNA-based therapy portfolio across Pfizer and their pre-clinical therapeutic in-vitro and in-vivo needs. The candidate will contribute to department wide deliverables and be required to lead a team of direct reports, work on several projects simultaneously presenting results, and updates at group meetings.

  • Lead development of RNA therapeutics process optimization and scale-up
  • Oversee and support all aspects of RNA production, IVE and characterization, collaborate on LNP formulation
  • Collaborate with groups across Pfizer to develop processes compatible with and capitalizing on existing internal knowledge/infrastructure
  • Routinely generate top quality data packages and present at project meetings
  • Propose experimental designs and work closely with cross-functional teams, project leads and senior group members on identifying/advancing best strategies and planning/executing deliverables
  • May lead therapeutic discovery projects
  • Mentor and support junior staff and build a culture of support and collaboration
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including therapeutic discovery teams, research units, bioanalytical teams, transient expression and stable cell line development groups, engineering leads, and R&D project leaders

  • PhD in Chemical/Biochemical/Biological Engineering or a related discipline with 6+ years of industry experience with mRNA and self-replicating RNA engineering
  • Significant experience with mammalian expression regulation and engineering
  • Experience in cell culture, cell line maintenance, and various reporter assays (including flow cytometry).
  • Extensive experience with DNA and RNA manipulation (including recombinant DNA techniques, IVT, sequence analysis, DNA/RNA isolation, RT-qPCR/ddPCR, purification and analysis).
  • Curiosity and passion for research with strong interest in synthetic biology and gene therapy, creative and flexible thinking
  • Ability to plan, organize, problem solve (troubleshoot), design experiments, work efficiently independently and in a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral

  • Experience with self-replicating RNA a plus
  • Prior managerial experience preferred
