Summary

This position offers a unique opportunity to apply machine learning and statistics for biological data from cutting-edge single-cell technologies. The candidate will join a highly collaborative team under the direct supervision of the PIs (Martin and Samee). The candidate should have a strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and experience with machine learning programming in Python and/or R (proficient in scikit-learn/caret, Keras, TensorFlow/PyTorch). Prior background in molecular biology and genomics is a plus but not required.

Job Purpose

Under limited supervision, Programmer, Bioinformatics II formulates and defines project scope and objectives through research and fact finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems handling biological data.

Job Duties

  • Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and maintains machine learning tools for single-cell data. This also includes configuring and customizing third-party tools (e.g., from new scientific publications) and integrating those to an existing pipeline.
  • Presents data analysis results in regular collaborative meetings.
  • With inputs from the team, generates data visualizations for manuscripts.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Biological Science, or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with machine learning pipeline development in Python and/or R (proficient in scikit-learn/caret, Keras, TensorFlow/PyTorch).
  • Familiarity with single-cell data analysis packages such as Seurat, Harmony, and ScanPy.
  • Familiarity with GitHub and installing third-party tools/packages.
