Summary

The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Research Operations Associate to lead the day-to-day operations of the Center Director's funded research portfolio. Dr. Amy McGuire's research is focused on the Ethical, Social, and Legal Implications (ELSI) of Genomics, and in the use of emerging technologies in research and clinical care. The portfolio currently consists of over 15 projects totaling over $2M in funding, which is primarily funded through NIH. The Research Operations Associate will work closely with faculty, staff, and Center Administration in order to optimize the efficiency of the research operations of Dr. McGuire's portfolio and be a catalyst for the long-term growth and expansion of the Center's research mission. This role may have the opportunity to manage research staff on individual projects.

Job Duties

  • Leads the daily operations and project management for Dr. McGuire's funded research portfolio.
  • Creates long- and short-term project plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines.
  • Performs quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected.
  • Serves as the liaison between the research team and external collaborators, stakeholders, performance sites, and vendors.
  • Develops workforce planning strategies for research projects to ensure that projects are adequately staffed to meet project aims.
  • Manages project IRB submissions and be the point of contact for reliance IRB agreements.
  • Prepares documents for grant quarterly/biannual/annual reporting purposes.
  • Oversees procurement and contracting for project specific purchases and agreements.
  • Develops reporting for the overall portfolio including the tracking of publications, grant submissions, mentored students and interns.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in project or grant management.
  • Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and communication skills required and must be able to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.
  • Highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, understand processes, and resolve issues.
