We are hiring a research technician with experience in molecular biology, genetics, plant biology, and/or fieldwork. Researchers in human, animal, and other model organisms are encouraged to apply.

The Gage Lab is a new research group in the department of Crop and Soil Sciences at North Carolina State University, located in the brand new Plant Sciences Building, which houses diverse plant-related research groups in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. We are studying how differential regulation of gene expression between alleles contributes to adaptation and genotype-by-environment interactions. This involves modeling the effects of regulatory sequences on transcription and translation, then applying those models to understand and predict how crops respond to real-world environmental variation. Much of our work is currently in maize, but we aim to build models that can be applied to the numerous other crops studied and bred at NCSU. We are looking for an independent and motivated research technician who can help establish a lab ethos of curiosity, collaboration, hard work, and inclusivity, while contributing to the scientific trajectory of our new group.

Responsibilities span wet lab, field, and administrative work: collection and processing of plant tissue samples for genomic, transcriptomic, and translatomic studies; planning, planting, maintaining, and evaluating field, greenhouse, or growth chamber experiments; manual and high throughput phenotyping; ordering, handling, maintaining and storing lab inventory and biological material; and generally assisting with lab experiments.

Interested candidates should submit a CV and one-page cover letter describing how they fit the position and their scientific interests and philosophy. Materials can be sent to Joseph Gage at jlgage@ncsu.edu

Start Date: July 2022, negotiable. Funding available for two years, renewable contingent on mutual agreement.

Salary Description: Anticipated annual starting salary between $35,000 and $40,000, depending on experience.
