Position description

The University of California Santa Barbara invites applications to fill a newly established Wilcox Family Chair in the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology. The goal of the Wilcox Family Chair is to recruit an established investigator with an outstanding record of creativity and accomplishment in any area of molecular, cellular, or developmental biology. The recruit to hold the Wilcox Family Chair should be tenured at either the Associate or Full Professor level, and will be expected to continue to perform exceptional cutting-edge research, have a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as to expanding diversity, equity and inclusion in STEM, and be a highly interactive colleague who will actively participate in professional service for the MCDB Department and UCSB in general.

Responsibilities of faculty members generally include the development of an actively funded research program of the highest quality, teaching at undergraduate and/or graduate levels, recruitment, supervision, and mentorship of graduate students, and participation in university service and professional activities. Successful candidates will have a record of collaborative research, and will be able to leverage synergies across the campus. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position. Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD in Molecular, Cellular or Developmental Biology or related field at the time of application

Preferred qualifications

• Record of creativity and accomplishment commensurate with an endowed chair.

• An established cutting edge research program.

• Candidates already holding tenured faculty positions will be given preference.
