We invite highly qualified and motivated students with a strong interest in microbiology who hold a Master degree or equivalent in biology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, microbiology, bioinformatics, chemistry, physics, or in another relevant field, to submit their applications to our online portal.

IMPRS Principles of Microbial Life in Marburg is a joint initiative of the University of Marburg, Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology and the LOEWE Center for Synthetic Microbiology (SYNMIKRO). More than 35 internationally renowned group leaders are participating in the program, which offers fully funded PhD projects in the following research areas:

Cellular Organization & Architecture
Physiology & Metabolism
Microbial Communities & Interactions
Signal Transduction & Information Processing

  The three-year PhD program provides interdisciplinary training in a vibrant, international scientific community and access to state-of-the-art research facilities, equipping our students with expertise and opportunities to embark on their own scientific journey. A cutting-edge PhD project is complemented by seminars and lectures, scientific and transferable skill workshops, as well as international conferences and retreats.   The closing date for the application is January 31, 2022. Accepted candidates may start their PhD projects already in the summer, but no later than October 2022.
