Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Upper Providence Posted Date: Dec 1 2021 Biological Scientist - Screening, Profiling & Mechanistic Biology Group GSK Upper Providence We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and biologist to join our Screening, Profiling and Mechanistic Biology group within the New Chemical Entities (NCE) department at our US Research Hub. The mission of our group is to identify small molecules as well as biologics that modulate human disease, thereby delivering new and better medicines for individuals with serious and greatest unmet medical need. To this end, we leverage a variety of different technologies in high-throughput screening approaches, applied to both biochemical as well as cellular models, to validate novel disease targets, identify chemical and biological starting points, understand their mechanisms of drug action and work with teams to optimize these leads. For this role specifically, we are looking for a biological scientist with a combined, proven track record in enzymology/receptor pharmacology in combination with small molecule mass spectrometry. The individual will be part of a team to deploy, and further develop Affinity Selection Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) and RapidFire Assays for drug discovery. Working in this multi-faceted, dynamic, and cutting-edge scientific environment, this laboratory-based Scientist role will give you the opportunity to: . apply biochemical and receptor biology expertise in support of binding screens · build understanding of the early drug discovery process, including practical experience in (small molecule) drug discovery · develop analytical, biochemical and biophysical skills . interface collaboratively in local and global matrix-team settings Key Responsibilities . support early drug discovery activities with emphasis on ASMS and Rapidfire assay development, screening and technology development . design and execute experiments with independence . maintain excellent experimental records . communicate experimental findings effectively, in written and verbal formats . build productive collaborations with GSK scientific partners, locally and globally Required Qualifications . Masters at least 2 years of research experience in industry or academia or PhD (preferred) . background in biochemistry and/or cell biology with demonstrable experience in applied mass spectrometry . self-motivated with an appetite for learning . embodies a positive-mindset and team mentality . quick learner who is driven to deliver impact Preferred Qualifications . hands-on experience with both biochemical and cellular assays . hands-on experience with small molecule mass spectrometry . experience with the development of RapidFire/LC MS assays . hands-on experience with biophysical techniques Why GSK?
