You will ensure that we continue to engage our vaccine recipients, payers and prescribers in a constructive dialogue around the benefits and risks of our vaccines in a way that builds trust and always puts customers first, strengthening and reinforcing the core capabilities within our medical organization and increasing Health Care Provider knowledge through fair, balanced and objective education. This is the most senior leadership position for Vaccines Medical Affairs in the United States, and you will be accountable for providing the leadership vision to ensure Medical Affairs excellence. You will be accountable for leading the vaccines medical affairs team across the United States, ensuring the required level of Medical capabilities and leadership to carry out the core tasks and critical functions required to support a successful local business. You will operate as a core strategic leader along with partner functions to commercialize new vaccines. This will include the development and execution of US specific medical affairs plans to help define the value proposition of our vaccines, including evidence generation to close US Market data gaps, as well as the appropriate external communication of our data to external Health care providers. You will stay abreast of current product issues and address / make recommendations and provide medical expertise on a wide range of topics. It will be important to provide a credible and deeply scientific external voice for GSK and to ensure rapid and thorough responses to product issues, and more importantly, to anticipate and mitigate problems before they occur. You will sit on the US Medical Affairs leadership team and represent US Medical - Vaccines in relevant Regional Commercial Leadership teams and medical governance boards. You will also maintain appropriate alignment and partnership with other relevant GSK functions including Vaccines US Commercial, Global Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Compliance, Health Economics, Epidemiology, Clinical Operations and Medical Governance. Key responsibilities You will provide Medical leadership and support to the country Vaccines Medical team in the United States (8 direct reports and 60 staff in total). Serve as the senior vaccines physician for the United States, the medical partner and voice to the United States Commercial leaders (Vaccine Market Leaders and GM). Communicate the value of vaccines to both scientific and non-scientific communities in the region in a balanced and credible way that ensures informed decision making to enable the best possible care for vaccine recipients. Lead the development and execution of globally and commercially aligned country medical plans (including external engagement and local evidence generation activities). Coordinate the generation of medical insights across the US operating units and integrate/prioritise these to inform global medical affairs/CMO where appropriate. Medical Governance and oversight of Vaccines medical affairs activities within the United States: Work closely with Leaders in the region and ensure issue escalation and management in a timely manner. Provide medical oversight of all GSK-sponsored vaccine study activities (incl. local evidence generation activities) in the region and countries. Ensure appropriate level of medical support to vaccines clinical operations in the countries. Serve as a global scientific spokesperson for GSK Vaccines where necessary. Build a high performing medical team in the US with the right capabilities. Ensure appropriate medical resources and capabilities are available (in collaboration with the GM), to provide the necessary support. Enable a performance-driven culture with clear metrics and business improvement is embedded into the United States Medical Affairs organisation and be accountable for measuring activities to demonstrate the group's value and achievements. Oversee the regional team of Health Economists and Epidemiologists accountable for regional and local Health Economics and Epidemiology activities. Basic qualifications: Medical Degree. Hands-on clinical and/or medical affairs experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Expertise in infectious diseases or vaccinology. Demonstrated ability to assess evidence generation needs; review and input into Phase IV protocols; review ISSs for scientific merit. Track record of building strong internal and external networks. Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams. Demonstrated ability to manage complexity and cultural diversity. Experience working at the country operating unit level with strong experience of the US market. Experience working at above-country (regional or global) level. Fluent in English. Preferred qualifications: Experience in the development of vaccines.
