What You Will Achieve

As part of the Comparative Medi cine team, you will provide basi c husbandry, handling, restraint and health surveillance of laboratory animals in comp liance with federal and local regulatory requirements. You will also be responsible for maint aining inventory of animal supplies and provide basic techni cal assistance (i.e., restrain t, injections, blood collections) in support of research studies. It is your hard work along with innovative ideas and focus that will help in making Pfizer ready to achieve new milestones and hel p patients acro ss the globe.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Perform routine animal hus bandry duties as directed.
  • Observe and report status of animal health, food and water con sumption, appearance, behavior.
  • Provide support in basic veterinary medical treatment as presc ribed by the veterinary staff.
  • Support cage wash equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Support research by providi ng specialty technical services (dose administration, blood collection, blood and ti ssue collection, preparatio n, vascular access port maintenance, surgery, data colle ction, record keeping and addit ional services) in support of WRD research programs.
  • Required to work with all species housed at the site.
  • Assist the facility manager and other Technical Leads in ident ifying the need for updating or initiating procedures.
  • Train and instruct CM personnel i n proper techniques, SOP's, r egulatory guidelines and general duties associated with animal care and welfare.
  • Set a workplace standard thr ough leading by example, show ing mastery of all SOP's, regulatory guidelines and Pfizer policies and behavio rs.


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • High School Degree or GED required
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience
  • LATG Certification required
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.


Nice-to-Have
  • Associates or BS/BA preferred


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work standing up lifting it ems above shoulder level for extended periods of time
  • Ability to perform repetitive ph ysical activities such as: pus hing and pulling racks of caging, lifting bags of feed and bedding, reaching, stooping an d bending.


NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Required to work with BSL2 infectious viruses (e.g., Vaccinia and adenovirus) and must receive and maintain required vaccinations or provide satisfactory proof of same.
  • Weekend and holiday w ork are required.
  • This is a first shift role and the available schedules are: Tuesday to Saturday or Sunday to Thursday. The assigned schedule will be determined along with the business once the candidate is hired.
  • This is an Essential Personnel role: Essential Personnel are defined as the staff that are required to report to their designated work location, to ensure the operation of essential functions or departments during an emergency, as determined by Pfizer, or when the business has suspended operations. There are some individuals who may be required to perform essential services remotely and those individuals will be identified in advance and notified by their supervisors, but in most cases Essential Personnel are required to be on-site during an emergency or suspension of operations.
  • May be required to work under one of the following: The United States Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Act and associated Regulations and Standards, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, Good Laboratory Practices, Public Health Service Policy and/or AAALAC accreditation standards.
