Summary

The Medical Affairs Program Management Lead is accountable for providing and maintaining Medical Affairs (MA) functional and therapeutic area teams in the operational planning and execution of a variety of strategic and tactical projects. Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, supervising a team of project managers with individual therapeutic area assignments; building project management tools and capabilities for all functions within MA; directly supporting the field medical team and head of MSLs in planning and execution of strategic and tactical initiatives; and, where needed, directly supporting therapeutic area teams with project management such as developing and managing project scope documents, related schedules, project plans, project resource requirements, and playing a key role in departmental operational process improvements. This role supports all MA programs and functions.

  • Accountable and primarily responsible for the project management capability function of Medical Affairs Operations.
  • Supervise a team of 3+ project managers, 1 for every 1-2 programs
  • Set goals and objectives for direct reports and hold accountable for achievement
  • Ensure that objectives are achieved in accordance with Spark Values
  • Provide project management mentorship and development opportunities to direct reports
  • Develop project management tools, processes, and best practices for Medical Affairs and champion their consistent use
  • Track budget spend at program level. Work with Medical Affairs Operations Leader and Finance to communicate trends to MA Leadership Team and revise latest estimates.
  • Partner with MA Digital Strategy Lead in championing Medical Affairs digital strategy and dashboards.
  • Contribute to an MA culture of continuous process improvement based on evidence and metrics
  • Oversee therapeutic-area-based annual strategic planning and budgeting process
  • With MA Project Managers, develop templates for TA subteams to populate
  • Champion a planning culture of proactive anticipation of strategies and tactics that will support Spark corporate and MA objectives

  • With MA Project Managers, direct TA subteam process of plan development, involving key stakeholders as necessary throughout the process:
  • Brand Strategy and/or Candidate Development and/or Asset teams
  • MA Leadership Team
  • Finance
  • Develop evidence-based budgetary forecasts from medical plans, and associated supportive materials
  • With MA Operations Leader and MA Leadership Team, develop and submit final MA plans and budgets to teams as specified by Spark budgetary process
  • Partner with Finance in developing final integrated MA budget and tracking variance throughout the year
  • Ensure mutual operational and project backup to the Operations department, including project management, contracts processing, and Medical Approval Team (MAT) coordination
  • Educational and Experience Requirements

    • BA Degree required /MBA preferred
    • 10years in operations and/or project management in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Medical affairs experience required. Agency experience may be considered.
    • 5 years managing direct reports
    • PMP certification a plus

    • Ability to prioritize workload and accurately forecast timeframes for projected completion
