The EHS Coordinator will be responsible for partnering with Spark site personnel from various departments, most notably Research, Development and Manufacturing teams, to carry out day-to-day EHS tasks, coordinate the EHS Management System, track and manage key EHS engagement metrics, and support site Occupational Health and Safety programs. This position will be responsible for overseeing and executing site EHS compliance activities, contributing to site strategic EHS planning, and developing and delivering EHS related trainings and systems.

The EHS Coordinator must be an effective communicator and be able to produce clear, concise, and consistent messaging, both verbally and in writing. The EHS Coordinator will be required to possess excellent OSHA and Environmental regulatory program knowledge, biosafety and chemical safety awareness, practical regulated waste management understanding, and demonstrates this expertise when working with site Research and Development , Facilities , Manufacturing, and Operations teams.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Implement and administer Spark EHS Management system tools and resources related to training, risk assessment, corrective and preventative actions, legal/risk profiles, Safety Data Sheet management, and waste management.
  • Develop initiatives, procedures, and training to assure compliance with Federal, State and Local EHS related regulations and site EHS requirements.
  • Provide “point of contact’ to various enterprise teams for understanding existing and developing EHS related programs, initiatives, and trainings.
  • Assist in incident investigations, corrective and preventative actions, stakeholder feedback loops, and EHS audits and inspections.
  • Support the development of EHS policies and procedures, and facilitate procedure reviews and updates in Spark’s EHS document management system.
  • Collect and collate key performance indicators including data and metrics to support Spark’s sustainability efforts.
  • Determine opportunity for human organization performance activities that may build on Spark’s engaged employee culture.
  • Facilitate and implement a Spark ‘Good Observations’ program that aims to enhance employee engagement.
  • Provide EHS guidance and oversight to Spark groups and departments as needs arise.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and administer multiple complex assignments concurrently.


  • Minimum of 3-5 years' EHS experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry. 7+ years EHS experience is preferred.
  • CSP, CIH preferred.


  • B.S. in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field required. M.S. preferred.

  • A thorough understanding of all applicable regulatory requirements including, but not limited to EPA, OSHA, NFPA, DOH, FDA and
  • Ability to demonstrate influence and collaboration across all levels within a site.
  • Knowledge of Research & Development laboratory operations.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.
