Dr. Man-Kyo Chung’s lab at the Department of Neural and Pain Sciences, the University of Maryland at Baltimore, is looking for a postdoctoral fellow for carrying out an NIH-funded study on neurobiological mechanisms of pain. Chung lab investigates peripheral and central mechanisms of craniofacial neuropathic pain using multidisciplinary approaches using mouse models. The applicant will be trained in a collaborative environment of a strong pain research group toward a future career as academic dentist-scientists. The Department of Neural and Pain Sciences has 13 faculty members working on pain management, research, and education. UMB has the Center to Advance Chronic Pain Research (CACPR) composed of 41 faculty members from the School of Dentistry, Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy, Law, and Social Work, investigating basic, translational, and clinical pain sciences.

The candidate must have a PhD degree, is expected to be highly motivated, and has a record of publications in pain or other neuroscience areas, such as addiction, depression, and neurodegenerative diseases. Expertise in mouse pain models, rodent surgery, stereotaxic injection, behavioral assays, and histological assays is required. The candidate needs to have a strong ability in verbal and written scientific communication. Skills and experiences in histological assays, fluorescence imaging, neural circuit manipulations, working with genetically modified mice, and molecular biology are considered with high priority. A highly experienced candidate will be appointed as a research associate.
