Dr. Hoda Badr in the Section of Epidemiology and Population Sciences in the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine ( https://www.bcm.edu/research/labs/hoda-badr ) is seeking a competent and enthusiastic Research Coordinator II to work in her lab on extramurally funded research studies focusing on the behavioral and stress-related aspects of cancer treatment and survivorship. The research coordinator will play an integral role in observational research studies that involve conducting surveys and interviews with adult cancer patients, family caregivers, and healthcare providers; and, the development and testing of technology-based and multilevel interventions to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes for medically underserved patients and caregivers. Activities range from administrative to scientific elements of study conduct and include screening, enrollment, and monitoring of research participants who are recruited from the different hospital affiliates of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center (e.g., Baylor St Luke's Medical Center, Harris Health System). The research coordinator will conduct study visits and calls, data collection, and data entry, as well as assist with the conduct of focus groups and qualitative interviews. Will also assist with protocol amendments, preparing research reports, and maintaining education and best practices in research ethics and human subject research. The ideal candidate for this position will be an enthusiastic, outgoing, go-getter who is focused on achieving project metrics and is detail oriented. Flexibility in response to changing priorities, ability to multitask and work independently, and excellent oral and written communication skills are also key. Individuals who are bilingual in English and Spanish are strongly preferred.

Job Duties

  • Serves as primary point-of-contact for implementing the research protocol and provides regular updates on study progress.
  • Identifies potentially eligible cancer patients from the EPIC electronic health record system, coordinates with healthcare providers to contact patients and caregivers in the clinic for the purpose of recruitment, explains the study protocol, and consents patients/caregivers.
  • Facilitates data collection and completion of study activities as dictated by project protocol, including but not limited to administering surveys and interviews, conducting stakeholder feedback sessions and brief intervention calls, and completing chart reviews.
  • Processes documents, enters information into institutional and research tracking databases (e.g., ONCORE, Microsoft Access/Excel), and conducts survey data entry.
  • Assists in the development of materials for participant activities (e.g., recruitment flyers, questionnaires, educational materials), including survey construction and administration in Qualtrics/REDCap.
  • Schedules participants for research interviews and focus groups, assists the PI in conducting focus groups and interviews, and conducts coding of qualitative data using AtlasTi.
  • Assists with submission of IRB protocol amendments in BRAIN and preparing research reports as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual - fluency in both English and Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience conducting human subjects research in clinical/medical settings.
  • Training in behavioral science or closely related field (such as psychology, public health, implementation science, sociology, or medical anthropology).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organization, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as in a team.
  • Ability to handle multiple deadline driven tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience preparing IRB applications and using survey/research software (such as REDCap).
