Summary

The Research Coordinator is expected to communicate effectively with research participants, as well as research and clinical personnel engaged with clinical research in the Neurosurgery Department. The Research Coordinator assists the PI and other research personnel to prepare and conduct research experiments, collect, compile, and analyze data, conduct literature searches and summarize information, document experiments, assist the PI in disseminating scientific findings via social media, select and apply routine research techniques, and order laboratory supplies and equipment.

Job Duties

  • Communicates effectively with research participants in the hospital to describe planned experiments, timelines, and purpose. The Research Coordinator also communicates effectively with all other research personnel to plan the timeline of experiments across multiple labs and seeks appropriate authorization from senior research and clinical personnel.
  • Prepares materials and conducts research experiments in the clinical research environment in the hospital, under the guidance of the PI and senior lab members, including preparation of research equipment, configuration and troubleshooting of research equipment, and administration of research experiments.
  • Collects research data files from laboratory equipment, compiles the data and maintains data on shared research server, and performs basic processing and analysis of data under guidance from the PI and senior laboratory staff.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes findings with a specified scope with regards to a research question, presents the findings to the laboratory in written or oral form upon occasion.
  • Documents experiments in shared repository notebook and experimental logs including timing of tasks, file names, and basic behavioral observations.
  • Selects and applies routine research techniques such as data pre-processing using an existing analytical pipelines, quality control of data, and discussion of findings with lab members.
  • Assists with communication regarding IRB and NIH, such as updates on the study, recruitment numbers, etc.
  • Maintains stocks of basic laboratory equipment such as sensors, cabling, or consumables, and assists in ordering such supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Assists in providing updates on group progress via social media such as LinkedIn, the laboratory website, and science twitter.
  • Works with clinical staff to develop neuroimaging resources on each research participant which are disseminated across our research and clinical group.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • A basic understanding of human neuroanatomy would be an enormous plus.
  • Basic prior experience with Matlab, Python, and/or R, and statistical training.
  • Prior experience in a research lab, either as a volunteer or paid research staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, neuroscience, biology, basic science, mathematics, statistics, engineering.
