What You Will Achieve

We are seeking a Senior Associate Scientist at the BS/MS level to join the Pfizer NGS Technology Center to support projects in support of the Inflammation and Immunology RU as well as other RUs and partner lines in the Pfizer Cambridge Kendall Square Research site. This is mainly a lab-based position where the candidate will prepare libraries for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), operate NGS equipment, and assist in performing assays including mRNA-seq, total RNA-seq, single cell RNASeq, Perturb-Seq, spatial transcriptomics and other adjacent molecular and cell biology techniques.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Perform and maintain competency in complex NGS assays/tasks according to established protocols
  • Develop, trouble-shoot, and optimize library-prep and sequencing protocols
  • Perform molecular biology laboratory procedures involving traditional techniques such as PCR, isolation of nucleic acids, size and concentration QC, and other molecular biology techniques.
  • Section, stain, and image tissue sections for spatial transcriptomics
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot automated liquid handling, nucleic acid QC, and Illumina sequencing equipment diligently and according to procedures
  • Perform necessary equipment checks, performance testing, preventive maintenance, and quality control on equipment per laboratory guidelines
  • Communicate principles of NGS experimental design, batching, and metadata capture to collaborators
  • Accurately maintain written reports and organize data


  • BS or MS in Medical Technology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of related experience
  • Molecular biology lab skills
  • Proficient in using, and able to maintain highly complex laboratory equipment like automated library preparation instruments, various NGS equipment and quality control instrumentation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good laboratory and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Ability to multitask, team player.
  • Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Experience with NGS
  • Adjacent cellular biology (e.g., cell culture, tissue processing) skills

  • Ability to perform laboratory work while sitting or standing at laboratory benches/ instrumentation for extended periods of time.
