We are currently seeking a Researcher with experience in mass spectrometry to work in a vibrant, multi-disciplinary environment. Our well-funded research group has numerous ongoing projects in infectious disease, cancer biology, drug discovery, and metabolism, all with the ultimate goal of developing new treatments for human disease. Our team, which includes chemists, biophysicists, biochemists, and biologists, works together using a best-tool-for-the-job approach. We regularly employ a wide range of tools and techniques, including those from structural biology, microscopy, chemical synthesis, mechanistic enzymology, and mass spectrometry.

Duties/Responsibilities: We are recruiting an independent, self-motivated individual to continue and expand the targeted metabolomics work in our lab. The successful candidate will design, perform and analyze data from targeted metabolomics experiments, with a particular focus on nucleotide metabolism and other related pathways. In addition, they will be responsible for conducting supporting and complementary experiments that may include cell culture, design and implementation of novel assays, protein purification, and other related analytical or biophysical analyses. Because of the breadth of expertise and experience in the lab, there will be opportunities for the new team member to expand their skillset and receive training in structural biology (Cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography), drug design/development, cell biology and advanced microscopy, and to build upon their expertise in metabolomics and other applications of mass spectrometry.

Requirements and preferred qualifications: The ideal candidate for a postdoctoral researcher position will have a Masters's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related field and have experience with research using mass spectrometry or LC-MS, preferably for targeted metabolomics. Exceptional candidates lacking mass spectrometry experience will also be considered. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated record of productivity, possess excellent communication skills, will show evidence of the ability to work independently and in small groups, and have a strong work ethic.

Our research lab is located at The Hormel Institute (HI), University of Minnesota. The HI is an independent research institute located in Southeast Minnesota that is affiliated with the University of Minnesota and is in close proximity to the Mayo Clinic. The selected candidate will receive excellent remuneration and have access to the exceptional resources available at the HI, including several shared core facilities, cutting-edge computing, tremendous professional development opportunities, employee fitness facility, and dedicated housing for HI researchers located in close proximity to the institute.

Additional information about the lab can be found on the French Lab website (, and further information about the Hormel Institute can be found at the HI site ( Interested applicants can reach out to the PI (Jarrod French:
