Postdoctoral Research Fellows

The Texas A&M AgriLife Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture is the world’s first research institute to bring together precision nutrition and responsive agriculture research to improve human nutrition and lower health care costs, in a way that is environmentally and economically sustainable.

Solving the challenges facing our food systems with this promise of health through agriculture-based solutions is no small endeavor and requires extraordinary support. As such, The IHA brings together experts across many disciplines, including agriculture, nutrition, behavioral, social and life sciences, engineering, data and computation science, and economics. IHA researchers work collaboratively to develop solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing the food and agriculture systems today in a manner that can support human, environmental and economic health.

We are looking to fill 16 postdoctoral Research Fellows of various specialties through a cluster-hire to work on various research projects with a focus on advancing health through agriculture. The postdoctoral fellows will be advised by top scientists at Texas A&M University, Prairie View A&M University and the USDA-ARS.

The 16 Postdoctoral Research Fellows specific field areas are as follows

• (2x) Nutrients and food components in national dietary surveillance – What We Eat in America
• (2x) Edible insects and health
• (2x) Prediction of microbiota-dependent effects of fine-scale food composition on human health using Big Data and AI/ML approaches
• (2x) Precision nutrition research in adolescent females
• (2x) Human milk oligosaccharides in gut health
• (2x) Agricultural Economics/systems
• (2x) Food microbiology and gut health
• (2x) Diabetes and nutrition

Compensation

Each postdoctoral fellow will be provided with:

• a competitive salary
• benefits (including health insurance) for two years, with the possibility of extension dependent upon performance and availability of funds.
• Access to funds for research supplies, travel, publications, and professional development.

The expected start date is negotiable but anticipated for the spring of 2022. All successful applicants will be expected to hold a PhD at the time of appointment in a relevant field and demonstrate academic excellence. About the Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture

The Texas A&M AgriLife Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture (IHA) is accelerating Texas A&M AgriLife’s efforts to deliver the research, education and services which use agriculture to combat the nation’s diet-related chronic disease epidemic and to bolster the health of our environment and economy. As a platform for the exchange of big ideas and data, the IHA will advance research to help agricultural producers harness big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning to produce food that improves public health and strengthens producers’ economic viability. The IHA includes a USDA Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) program called “A Systems Approach to Responsive Agriculture.” Funded at $20 million annually, the program will be composed of a mix of new ARS scientists and existing Texas A&M faculty. The IHA and its embedded ARS program will work collaboratively with other ARS and land-grant universities to bring big data, state-of-the-art sensors and computational systems approaches to responsive agriculture and precision nutrition.
