Summary

The Lead, Research Administration will work closely with the faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in providing professional guidance and support in seeking extramural funding through research and service grants, cooperative agreements, sub awards, and contracts. Will lead the central research team ensuring applications are complete and final for submission.

Job Duties

  • Processes, prepares, reports, tracks, and ensures compliance on a variety of pre-award transactions in the Department.
  • Coordinates and performs a wide variety of research and grant administrative-related functions in the department.
  • Assists principal investigators with securing and maintain funding.
  • Acts as departmental liaison to the Baylor College of Medicine Sponsored Programs Office (SPO).
  • Assists principal investigators with preparing grant/proposal submissions.
  • Works on pre-award budgets and post-award account management.
  • Works with Principal Investigators to create grant budgets.
  • Prepares incoming subcontracts and outgoing subcontracts to various institutions.
  • Reviews and approves grant applications/proposal submissions and associated budgets in the College's electronic Biomedical Research and Assurance Information Network (BRAIN).
  • Assists PIs with salary distribution, FTE projection, and personnel hiring.
  • Assists PI with new account requests, account extension, progress reports, no-cost extensions, and carryover requests.
  • Proactively oversees grant/contract budgets, providing budget projections as needed for PI decision making and avoidance of over or under spending of grant fund.
  • Ensures research faculty have their salaries and expenses appropriately sourced in the financial accounting system SAP.
  • Manages grants records and documentation for the department.
  • Reviews, negotiates, and tracks the execution of a variety of research agreements, such as subaward agreements, material transfer agreements, data use agreements and confidentiality agreements.
  • Oversees and manages all grant activity assigned to the Department.
  • Works with various members of the department's administration team including the Lead, Financial Analyst, Financial Analyst, and Research Administration Specialist to ensure the full life cycle of the award is complete.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Certified Research Administrator certification through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Six years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP and BRAIN.
