ROLE SUMMARY

The Bacterial Vaccine and Technology Group as Pfizer, which reports into the Bacterial Vaccines Chief Scientific Officer is responsible for leading the discovery and scientific leadership for the bacterial vaccines within the Pfizer vaccine Research and Development Unit (VRDU). The department is comprised of a number of functional groups including include molecular biology, antibody technology, in vivo biology, bioinformatics, molecular assays and surveillance. These groups work to support all stages of Vaccine Research and Development.

We are looking for a motivated individual to join the department where their focus will be to lead the research efforts meningococcal vaccines, in addition to leading a core functional group. The incumbent will be responsible to align the activities to the VRDU goals, working across the VRDU and partner lines.

The role requires strong background in bacteriology, pathogenicity, assay development and molecular biology. The candidate needs to provide leadership, scientific and technical support within a diversified department. The role also requires experience and established track record in working with multifunctional teams outside of their reporting structure, leading and presenting research and program strategy. In addition to report authoring and responding to regulatory questions.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads meningococcal research for development programs within VRDU
  • Creates and leads a motivated, committed and engaged research team. Models and expects effective team behavior to achieve the project goals
  • Develops and executes strategy within program team
  • Develops team members
  • Partners with lines to prioritize goals that support meningococcal vaccine development
  • Provides research expertise to inform Pfizer's vaccine development strategy
  • Accountable to area CSO


QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

  • Doctoral level degree with at least 10 years industry experience/senior academic experience
  • Strong lead author publication record in bacteriology
  • Proven track record of project advancement and delivery
  • Working knowledge of laboratory techniques associated with meningococcal research at a level to ensure data quality and reproducibility
  • Experience in vaccines, anti-infective small molecule or biologic therapeutic modalities
  • Strong working knowledge of medical practice, diseases and biology relevant to bacterial/viral pathogenesis
  • Direct managerial experience
  • Record of delivery of discipline-relevant data in support of programs that have advanced towards the clinic
  • Demonstrated innovation and the ability to apply knowledge, techniques and skills to further meningococcal vaccine development
