The primary purpose of the research laboratory coordinator position is to provide supervision and special training to technical personnel and complete highly technical work in medical and related research projects.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
  1. Laboratory Operations:
  • Supervises daily laboratory operations of the McCombs Institute and performs experiments related to biomarker and therapeutic target discovery by mass spectrometry.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies, managing budgets, and maintaining laboratory equipment and reagents.
  • Ensures compliance with state/federal and institutional guidelines in the storage, use and disposal of materials.
  • Oversees maintenance and repair of lab equipment.
  • Exercises considerable imagination, initiative and inventiveness in planning and executing details of experiments and in evaluating and interpreting results.
  1. Data Analysis and Reports:
  • Report and present research findings; serve key roles in grants and manuscript writing; develop research protocols.
  1. Teaming:
    • Responsible for onboarding new lab members.
    • Supervises technicians in their work and assists them as assigned.
    • Responsible for maintaining continuity of lab technical expertise.
    • Works closely with postdoctoral fellows and other research scientists in the laboratory to investigate biomarkers and novel protein targets for therapeutics.

4. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Preferred: Master's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Five years of experience in scientific, research or clinical laboratory to include three years in a lead/supervisory capacity. With preferred degree, three years of required experience in a lead/supervisory capacity.
