Summary

We are seeking a talented individual to join our team. The mission of our lab is to develop novel tools to advance our understanding of the role of the ISR in neurological disease and the contribution of the gut-brain axis to normal and disease states. We are looking for someone to help manage our mouse colony. This will involve extensive documentation, planning, and molecular skills to facilitate research experiments. Candidates should be extremely well organized, detail-oriented, and able to work as part of a team.

Job Duties

  • Helps to maintain and improve lab operations.
  • Performs PCR and other basic nucleic acid manipulations and agarose gel electrophoresis.
  • Knows the basic principles governing colony management for mouse lines.
  • Assists in protein extraction, quantification and SDS-PAGE techniques.
  • Able to follow protocols and SOP independently.
  • Utilizes Prism and Excel, if needed, for mouse tracking and documentation.
  • Be comfortable with handling mice, including but not limited to, ear punching.
  • Prepares laboratory reagents and check inventory regularly to ensure well stocked and efficient laboratory operations. We have over ten lines, some that have difficulty breeding. While the majority of the work for this position will be limited to our satellite room, the mice are spread over three facilities and will need to be tracked.
  • Uses molecular biology techniques to validate genotypes, prepare reagents and assist other lab members.
  • Coordinate services and shipment for/of mice within our mouse colony for external collaborators.
  • The individual will coordinate the shipment of tools made in the lab, including the preparation of commercial invoices.
  • The individual will also interact with lab members to ensure that samples are prepared on time.
  • Helps to maintain and improve lab operations by performing tasks to keep the laboratory running efficiently. Examples include assisting lab members in genotyping, preparing reagents, etc.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience.
