Job Description:

Research Associate 4

A research associate 4 position for a highly skilled scientist with experience in protein biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology is available in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine (LSU-SVM).

  • 60% Lead focused research evaluating protein-protein interactions, intracellular signaling, and the tumor microenvironment, in human and canine osteosarcoma. The project involves both in vitro and in vivo studies, and data analysis. This position will involve utilization of cell culture, protein biochemistry, and molecular biology techniques. Specific techniques include but are not limited to cell function assays, RNA/protein extraction, peptide synthesis, HPLC, mass spectrometry, high-throughput drug screening, flow cytometry, RNAseq etc.
  • 15% Supervise undergraduate and graduate student research, and troubleshoot assays as required.
  • 10% Maintain meticulous laboratory records, analyze data, and write manuscripts to be published in peer-reviewed journals, and attend annual scientific meetings to present findings.
  • 10% Contribute to maintenance of the work environment in the laboratory by training undergraduate and graduate students, ordering supplies, collaborating with peers, and complying with all biosafety training and laboratory training of graduate and professional students.
  • 5% other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in related field and 1-2 years of related experience.

Specific Experience: Undertaking experiments in mice, cell culture, basic molecular biology (RNA, DNA, protein extraction, PCR, Western blot)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D in Protein biochemistry, cancer biology, or related field with more than 5 years of experience

Research Associate 5

A research associate 5 position for a highly skilled scientist with extensive experience in protein biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology is available in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine (LSU-SVM).

  • 50% Manage and lead focused research evaluating protein-protein interactions, intracellular signaling, and the tumor microenvironment, in human and canine osteosarcoma. The primary project involves both in vitro and in vivo studies (in mouse models), and data analysis. Projects will involve utilization of cell culture, protein biochemistry, and molecular biology techniques. Specific techniques include but are not limited to cell function assays, RNA/protein extraction, peptide synthesis, HPLC, mass spectrometry, high-throughput drug screening, flow cytometry, bulk and single cell RNAseq etc.
  • 20% Supervise undergraduate and graduate student research, and troubleshoot assays as required.
  • 10% Maintain meticulous laboratory records, analyze data, and write manuscripts to be published in peer-reviewed journals, and attend annual scientific meetings to present findings. 
  • 10% Manage, organize, and maintain the maintenance of the work environment in the laboratory by training undergraduate and graduate students, ordering supplies, collaborating with peers, and complying with all biosafety training and laboratory training of graduate and professional students.
  • 5% Contribute to the submission of grant applications.
  • 5%Other tasks as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Protein biochemistry, cancer biology, or related field and 2-4 years of related experience or a terminal degree (Ph.D.) in a related field.

Specific experience: Undertaking experiments in mice, cell culture, molecular biology (RNA, DNA, protein extraction, PCR, Western blot), mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, RNA/DNA sequencing. Publication of original research as the first and/or senior author. Submission of proposals for grant funding.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D in Protein biochemistry, cancer biology, or related field

Special or Physical Qualifications (ALL LEVELS):

Required to be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, stand or walk for prolonged periods, able to reach above and below the shoulder, vision (near sight), vision (far sight), kneel or sit on the floor, bending, push/pulling, squatting, and/or twisting. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
