The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering (https://engineering.pitt.edu/bioengineering) invites applications from accomplished individuals with a PhD or equivalent degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or closely related disciplines for a tenure-stream faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank. We wish to recruit an individual with strong research accomplishments in Neural Engineering (i.e., leveraging basic science and engineering knowledge to develop innovative, translatable solutions for the nervous system), with preference given to neuroimaging, neuro-technologies, brain-computer interface, and neural interfaces. It is expected that this individual will broaden the scope of neural engineering focus of the department as well complement our current strengths in various bioengineering domains. Candidates must also be committed to contributing to high quality education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including our new Professional MS degree focused on neural engineering.

Located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh is ranked top-ten in securing NIH funding, and provides a rich environment for interdisciplinary research, strengthened through its affiliation with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). The Department of Bioengineering, consistently ranked among the top programs in the country, has outstanding research and educational programs, offering undergraduate (260 students, sophomore-to-senior years) and graduate (152 PhD, MD/PhD, and DPT/PhD students; and 56 MS students) degrees. Our vibrant neural engineering community spans many departments and centers across the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, offering many collaborative research opportunities, e.g.: the Brain Institute (https://braininstitute.pitt.edu/), the Center for Neural Basis of Cognition (https://www.cnbc.cmu.edu/), the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine (https://mirm-pitt.net//), the Vascular Medicine Institute (https://vmi.pitt.edu/), and the Drug Discovery Institute (https://upddi.pitt.edu/). The Center for Medical Innovation (https://www.engineering.pitt.edu/CMI/), the Coulter Translational Partnership II Program (https://www.engineeringx.pitt.edu/coulter/) and the Center for Commercial Applications of Healthcare Data (https://healthdataalliance.com/partners/university-of-pittsburgh/) offer innovation and translation opportunities.

Interested applicants should apply to requisition number 21008001 at Pitt Talent Center by visiting https://www.join.pitt.edu. Interested individuals should submit: (1) cover letter, (2) complete CV (including funding record, if applicable), (3) research statement, (4) teaching statement, (5) statement describing experience with or interest in activities to enhance diversity, inclusion, and equity, (6) three representative publications, and (7) names and complete contact information of at least four references. Applications will be reviewed as they are received and therefore, early submission is highly encouraged. We intend to conclude this recruitment by April 2022.
