Associate Director for Translational Research and Professor – University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center

The University of Chicago’s Biological Sciences Division (BSD) and the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCCCC) seek applications at the level of tenured full professor as Associate Director (AD) for Translational Research.

The AD will have senior level experience in translational cancer research. The AD will work with basic and clinical investigator teams to translate scientific discoveries from the laboratory to the clinic and community, with a focus on the broad thematic priority areas of the UCCCC – tumor immunology, cellular therapy, cancer metabolism, epigenetics, epitranscriptomics, target discovery, prevention, and population science.

By serving on the Cancer Center Executive Committee, the AD will represent, at the senior leadership level, the perspective and needs of the translational research pipeline of the UCCCC. The appointee will be responsible for building, strengthening, and fostering translational team science activities, and will play an important role in overall strategic planning for the Cancer Center.

The UCCCC is a single academic unit within the Biological Sciences Division. The UCCCC delivers outstanding patient care, conducts world-renowned research, and provides exemplary undergraduate, graduate, medical, and postgraduate education. The UCCCC received NCI designation in 1974 and designation as a comprehensive cancer center in 2008; its mission is to elucidate the determinants of cancer, to develop cures for cancer, and to prevent cancer through research, clinical care, education, and community engagement.  Members of the UCCCC collaborate widely across the BSD, with other Divisions, Schools, and Institutes at the University of Chicago, and with researchers at Argonne National Laboratory and the Marine Biological Laboratory.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent and qualify for appointment as a tenured full professor in an appropriate academic department.
