Multiple postdoctoral fellow and research assistant positions are immediately available at the Laboratory of Biochemical Pharmacology at the Department of Pediatrics, Emory University School of Medicine.

Sarafianos Lab: NIH-funded research (https://reporter.nih.gov/search/wRl9X8icRESLdHXy2von6A/projects?projects=Active) focuses on Virology, Biochemistry, Structural biology of viruses (HIV, SARS-CoV-2, HBV, Enteroviruses), the molecular details of how biomedically-relevant enzymes function, how they are inhibited, how they develop drug resistance and towards developing drugs that will treat human disease by novel mechanisms of action. Research tools used in the lab include protein biochemistry, molecular virology, fluorescence microscopy, X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, molecular modeling, enzymology, and high-throughput technologies (https://sarafianoslab.com). Positions are also available focusing on RNA biology of HIV, funded by an NIH grant to Assistant Professor William Cantara.

Postdoctoral Fellow positions are available in the newly established Michailidis Lab. The lab focuses on Virus-Host interactions using innovative tools including state-of-the-art targeted and whole-genome CRISPR screens, bulk and single-cell transcriptomics and a set of molecular, virological and biochemical assays across different viruses (HBV, HIV, SARS-CoV-2). The lab has also a special interest in liver-related studies including viral hepatitis, fatty-liver disease, and immunometabolism employing advanced primary human hepatocyte culture systems and humanized liver-chimeric mice. Preferred technical skills include (not all necessary) molecular cloning, cell culture, molecular biology methods (Western blot, microscopy, flow cytometry, ELISA), bioinformatics analysis (RNA-Seq), protein expression/purification, assay development (biochemical, cell-based, medium and high-throughput).

Candidates must be highly motivated, well organized, technically proficient, critically minded, and able to work independently but collaboratively with others. For the postdoctoral positions candidates must possess a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD. For the Research Assistant positions a bachelor's degree is required and four years of research experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Mouse experience (handling mice, tissue harvest) for the Michailidis lab or structural biology (crystallography, cryo-EM, cryo-ET, molecular modeling) for the Sarafianos lab will be considered a plus.

The labs are housed in the modern and open-space Health Sciences and Research Building. Emory University is one of the top US academic institutions with highly impactful research programs and provides access to core facilities with cutting-edge technologies. Emory is located in the suburbs of Atlanta, a vibrant metropolitan city that combines city life attractions inside a forest landscape.

To apply, email a cover letter describing research interests and career goals, CV, and contact information for 3 references to: ssarafi@emory.edu (Stefan Sarafianos) / davita.ann.findlay@emory.edu (Admin Coordinator) or emicha7@emory.edu (Lefteris Michailidis).
