Development of RNA-based therapies for Atherosclerosis and NAFLD/NASH

We are seeking qualified individuals to fill two postdoctoral positions, one at Weill Cornell Medical College (New York City, United States) and one at Weill-Cornell Medicine-Qatar (Doha, Qatar) in Dr. Hani Najafi-Shoushtari’s Laboratory to assess metabolic functions of small non-coding RNAs(microRNAs) in various aspects of cholesterol/lipid metabolism associated with significant obesity-related disease conditions.  Our work has uncovered several cellularmechanisms that explain how microRNAs control LDL-Cholesterol uptake and biosynthesis, and ER-stress induced lipogenesis. The goal is now to develop novel RNA-based therapeutics for prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis and non-alcoholic liver disease (NAFLD), including steatohepatitis (NASH), major disease conditions for which no gene therapies are available.

We are looking for candidates with a Ph.D. in molecular metabolism/nutrition or Biological/Biomedical Sciences awarded within the last three years who should have a high level of motivation and enthusiasm, and the ability to work independently. Candidates with experience in handling genetic or diet-induced mouse models of atherosclerosis or NAFLD/NASH, and skills performing relevant studies such as bone marrow transplantation, pathological assessment using tissue immunostaining are to be preferably considered. Excellent organizational, fluent English and exceptional writing skills are required.

Stipend is commensurate with experience and is accompanied by an attractive benefits package.

Qualified applicants are invited to submit a letter of application, outlining their interest in the position, along with their curriculum vitae, which should include the names and contact details of three referees.  Applicants for the position in New York City should send the application to han2005@med.cornell.edu. Applicants for the Qatar position should send the application to https://wcmq-academicpositions.odoo.com/jobs/detail/79?utm_campaign=Job+Campaign&utm_medium=Website&utm_source=ScienceCareers

Positions are open until filled. Please note that, due to the high volume of applications, only short-listed candidates will be contacted.
