The lab of Dr. Francisco J. Alvarez (Department of Cell Biology) seeks a person to fill a new 3-year postdoctoral position. The successful candidate will carry out work on the plasticity of spinal interneuronal circuits modulating sympathetic outflow that control skin and muscle vasculature. The candidate will use a variety of transynaptic viral approaches in the mouse to map different genetic classes of spinal interneurons connected to autonomic spinal motoneurons controlling peripheral vasculature. He or she will also investigate plasticity of these circuits after spinal cord injury to better understand autonomic dysfunction in these patients.  The fellow will work in an environment with high diversity and will have opportunities to collaborate with others and act as a mentor for undergraduate and graduate students. The fellow will be expected to write research summaries, meeting abstracts and manuscripts for publications as well as present research progress in national meetings. The fellow will also be encouraged to submit fellowship and grant proposals for career development.
