Joining Genentech means being part of a tradition of inquiry that will change the world. It means embracing our failures as much as our successes. It requires a willingness to look beyond the edge of what's possible. And a focus on doing the day-to-day work that makes great science happen.

The following opportunity exists in South San Francisco, CA:

Senior/Principal Scientist, Single Cell Proteomics

THE POSITION

The Microchemistry, Proteomics, Lipidomics (MPL) and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Department is seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Scientist with a record of high impact research involving quantitative proteomics to join the group. The successful individual will lead Single Cell Proteomics efforts within MPL+NGS and drive the development and application of cutting-edge proteomic tools.

Mass spectrometry based single cell proteomics (scMS) is an emerging field that has demonstrated the ability to quantify proteins in a manner that is complementary to single cell RNA-seq analyses. In this role you will be leading and developing scMS capabilities as a principal investigator. You will serve as a technology leader in a highly interdepartmental collaborative environment at the interface of single cell proteomics and therapeutic discovery, with the goal to make an impact on our pipeline. Areas of research encompassed in this work will be preparation of single cells for proteomic analysis, ulta-sensitive mass spectrometry, and the application of intelligent data acquisition techniques.

Advances in mass spectrometry proteomics and associated areas have revolutionized the study of cellular proteins and motivated in depth molecular characterization of normal human physiology and disease biology. The MPL group is a world leader in the application of technologies, including mass spectrometry and plate-based proteomic methods, to elucidate new models of the molecular mechanisms of disease and the development of novel therapeutics. As is true across Genentech, research in MPL is fast paced and highly collaborative, drawing on the expertise of some of the world's leading experts in biochemistry, technology, computational biology and disease.
