Senior Principal Scientist, Chemoproteomics
The Microchemistry, Proteomics, Lipidomics (MPL) and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Department is seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Scientist with a record of high impact research involving chemoproteomics to join the group. The successful individual will lead Chemoproteomics efforts within MPL+NGS and drive the development and application of cutting-edge proteomic tools.
Chemoproteomics approaches are vital to discovering and understanding drug interactions with the proteome in its native environment, and in this role you will be leading and developing chemoproteomics research as a principal investigator. You will serve as a technology leader in a highly interdepartmental collaborative environment at the interface of small molecule research and proteomics, with the goal to make an impact on our drug pipeline. You will also have the opportunity to establish external collaborations that augment our internal research activities. Areas of research include target identification, lead finding and lead optimization relating to discovery and pipeline projects.
Advances in mass spectrometry proteomics and associated areas have revolutionized the study of cellular proteins and motivated in depth molecular characterization of normal human physiology and disease biology. The MPL group is a world leader in the application of technologies, including mass spectrometry and plate-based proteomic methods, to elucidate new models of the molecular mechanisms of disease and the development of novel therapeutics. As is true across Genentech, research in MPL is fast paced and highly collaborative, drawing on the expertise of some of the world's leading experts in biochemistry, technology, computational biology and disease.
Who You Are
• PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field, with 5-10 years of experience, including postdoc or industrial experience in chemical proteomics.
• Experience managing direct reports (Post-docs, Jr. Scientists, etc)
• Track record of independent research to conceive ideas, develop studies and derive conclusions as demonstrated by high profile publication.
• Extensive experience in mass spec-based chemoproteomics techniques and data analysis.
• Experience in leading activity-based protein profiling and collaborative chemoproteomics efforts.
• Experience with new chemical modalities is a plus.
• Strong communication & interpersonal skills.
• Strong computational skills and a basic understanding of at least one programming language.
• Ability to mentor colleagues to enable their scientific potential.
