The Department of Physiology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) (https://www.uthsc.edu/physiology/) seeks outstanding applicants to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to complement and extend departmental and campus-wide research in the areas of cardiovascular physiology and disease. The Department of Physiology at the UTHSC was recently ranked in the top ten nationally for NIH funding. The Department faculty conduct diverse, innovative research towards understanding the fundamental mechanisms of physiology and translational research employing multidisciplinary approaches to uncovering new biological principles impacting human diseases.

We are particularly interested in candidates with active research programs to complement existing departmental strengths in cardiac and vascular diseases, diabetes, ion channel physiology, signal transduction, mitochondrial biology, injury and repair. The primary duties of this position are to perform cutting-edge research, secure national funding, and teach physiology to medical and dental students.

Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D, or equivalent degree, at least 4-5 years research experience in a physiology-relevant field, and an excellent publication record. Preference will be given to applicants who have funded research programs in cardiovascular physiology with a strong emphasis on disease mechanisms in humans and demonstrate a strong potential for obtaining future extramural funding.
