The College of Graduate Studies at Midwestern University is seeking a Program Director for the Master of Public Health Program.

Duties and Responsibilities 

Administrative Responsibility (60%)

  • Lead the development and implementation of an online M.P.H. degree program in Global One Health delivered as a dual degree for healthcare professional students enrolled in osteopathic medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and optometry programs of study.
  • In consultation with the Dean, College of Graduate Studies, and faculty and staff, develop proposals for additional M.P.H. degree concentration areas and delivery formats based on analysis of admissions and enrollment trends and available resources.
  • Ensure the quality of education and services rendered by all faculty and personnel assigned to the program.  The Program Director shall monitor and audit the performance of all departmental members in all educational responsibilities and methodologies.
  • Oversee the process to achieve accreditation status and maintain full accreditation of program.
  • Oversee recruitment of faculty and staff, and after consultation with the faculty and in accordance with the Faculty Handbook, make recommendations to the Dean, College of Graduate Studies, regarding faculty/staff appointments, promotions, leaves of absence, and terminations.
  • Mentor faculty on the fulfillment of service, teaching, and scholarship responsibilities and facilitate their continued professional development.
  • Provide an annual performance assessment of the faculty and staff based on the faculty development plan or goals.
  • Preside at all regularly scheduled meetings of the program and effectively represent the program at external administrative meetings.
  • Develop and provide, on a yearly basis, an assessment of the number of professional faculty/staff required. 
  • After consultation with faculty/staff, prepare an annual budget and submit to the Dean, College of Graduate Studies for approval; monitor the implementation of the approved budget to ensure expenses remain within budgetary limits.
  • In consultation with the faculty, develop program policies and procedures and ensure they effectively guide the implementation of the curriculum in compliance with accreditation standards and in coordination with healthcare professional programs in which students are concurrently enrolled.
  • In consultation with the faculty, assign faculty members to committee assignments, lecture and course directorship responsibilities, as appropriate based on expertise, overall workload, and experience.
  • Enforce adherence of faculty, staff, and students to the bylaws, rules, regulations, and policies of Midwestern University.
  • Be responsible for encouraging and assisting in the planning and development of research programs, and through consultation with the faculty, allocating, as appropriate, departmental resources to support such research.
  • In his/her absence, designate a faculty member of the program to assume his/her responsibilities. 

Academic Responsibility (20%)

  • Participate actively in the teaching program in accordance with areas of expertise.

Scholarly Responsibility (10%)

  • Engage in scholarly activities relevant to public health practice, education, or other areas of interest.

Service Responsibility (10%)

  • Serve on University, College, and Program Committees as assigned.
  • Serve the healthcare profession and society by participation in local or national associations relevant to area of expertise.
  • Participate in community events relevant to expertise.

Position Requirements

  • Full-time faculty appointment to the Master of Public Health Program
  • Possess a terminal public health-related degree, e.g., M.P.H., Dr.PH., Ph.D.
  • Possession of a healthcare professional degree, e.g., D.O., M.D., D.V.M. is highly desirable
  • At least five (5) years of experience in public health practice
  • At least three (3) years of experience in a full-time academic appointment at the postbaccalaureate level
  • Demonstrated history of administrative and scholarship responsibilities and experience to support the position’s responsibilities for program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budget management
