Job Description Summary
The Natural and Applied Sciences Department at Bentley University invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in the broadly defined field of Health Informatics. We seek applicants whose teaching and research experience centers around the analysis and/or modeling of data sets associated with human health. Compatible data-intensive disciplines falling under this umbrella may include clinical epidemiology, computational biology, machine learning/artificial intelligence, and analytics with a focus on public health and/or clinical practice.

As guided by our Academic Affairs Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Strategic Plan, Bentley University seeks to enhance our faculty capacity in the scholarship, pedagogy, and engagement related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. To achieve that, we are hiring a cohort of new faculty in multiple academic departments and disciplines with expertise in DEI. This position is intended to be part of our DEI faculty cohort, which will enrich our DEI expertise across Business and the Liberal Arts & Sciences. This position requires a deep understanding of the analytical methodology and applications of the study of medical and public health data, as well as a research agenda that explores new and/or open questions in health informatics, broadly defined. Applied genomics, proteomics, microbiomics, metabalomics and/or transcriptomics would also pertain if connecting directly with issues affecting human health care delivery and/or population health and wellness. Data mining, statistical analysis and computational modeling would be core skills that would mesh well with the academic environment at Bentley and support the primary research interests of our department. Candidates with interests in any field of informatics or analytics related to human medicine or public health will be considered. The business applications of these fields are of relevance to our institution.

This position adds to the Department and University's existing multidisciplinary strengths, including in health outcomes research, healthcare analytics, psychology, and the patient experience, while contributing to the growth of health research and the health-related curriculum at Bentley. The ideal candidate would have an active research pipeline with the potential for externally-funded research that can both engage undergraduate business students and have a meaningful impact beyond the University. Additionally, there will be opportunities to teach and mentor students in graduate programs, such as a new MBA concentration in healthcare. The successful candidate can join the Health Thought Leadership Network of 60 plus scholars conducting health-related research at Bentley or partner with the Center for Integration of Science and Industry.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants should have a PhD in biology/genetics/epidemiology/public health, statistics/computer science or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of two (2) years' experience. They must be an outstanding teacher who can engage undergraduate students, most of whom are business majors, and perform innovative research in their fields of expertise. Teaching ability and experience should be demonstrable, with particular attention to the topics of epidemiology, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, healthcare analytics, biostatistics, genetics/epigenetics, genomics/proteomics and/or microbiomics. We will look favorably on candidates with a significant record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and those experienced and successful in the process of acquiring external funding for their work.
