The Department of Chemistry at Washington University in St. Louis seeks a Professor of Chemistry to serve as Chair of the Department. We are searching for a dynamic and innovative leader with a strong record of grant funding, research, and scholarship who has a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and a strategic vision to lead the Department.

Candidates must possess a record of success advancing interdisciplinary research, a clear commitment to teaching innovations, demonstrated leadership skills, and the ability to recruit outstanding faculty, staff, and students. A PhD in chemistry and a record of teaching, research, and scholarship commensurate with the rank of a tenured full professor is required.

Duties during the term as Chair include fiscal responsibility for budgets and planning, leadership for research and education, and supervision of the faculty and administrative staff. Regular faculty duties as a professor also include teaching courses, conducting research, writing for publication, advising students, participating in department governance, and university service.

The Chemistry Department has recently added a newly renovated, cutting-edge research facility (Bryan Hall) and has hired several new faculty. The university intends to build on this substantial growth, which presents an exciting opportunity for a new Chair to guide the growth and development of the Department in the years to come.

Applicants should include a cover letter addressing their vision for leading a modern chemistry department, including aspects relating to research; teaching; and diversity, equity and inclusion. In addition, they should provide their CV, a description of their research program, and a list of at least 3 references. These references will not be contacted without the permission of the applicant.

Applications should be submitted online using the Interfolio website. Go to http://apply.interfolio.com/96301. To ensure full consideration, please apply by December 31st. For inquiries, please contact Prof. John McCarthy, chair of the search committee, mccarthy@wustl.edu.
