The School of Marine and Environmental Sciences at the University of South Alabama (USA) (https://www.southalabama.edu/colleges/artsandsci/marinesciences/) seeks applicants for a full-time (9-month), tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Environment and Society to begin on August 15, 2022. We seek applications from individuals whose teaching and research focus is at the interface of ecology and sociology and informs management and policy efforts to build resilient and sustainable coastal ecosystems. USA’s new School of Marine and Environmental Sciences is designed to expand on its successful graduate programs in Marine Sciences by broadening the interdisciplinary breadth of its academic and research programs and its faculty. The successful applicant will assist in the design and implementation of a new B.S. program in Environmental and Sustainability Sciences as well as potentially mentor graduate students in multiple graduate degree programs (M.S. in Marine Conservation and Resource Management, M.S. in Environmental Toxicology, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Marine Sciences). A Ph.D. in ecology, socioeconomics, sociology, anthropology, marine policy, resource management, environmental sciences, coastal, or marine sciences or other related fields is required. The successful applicant should be able to teach graduate and upper-level undergraduate courses in environmental sociology, environmental policy, sustainability and resource management or similar applied science courses. Expectations for research are high in the School of Marine and Environmental Sciences, and applicants should have a proven record of publications and extramural grant support (Associate Professor) or demonstrate clear potential for success in these areas (Assistant Professor). The successful applicant is expected to build an interdisciplinary program and engage faculty in sociology, economics, anthropology, engineering, business, and other departments across the University.

The position will be based at USA main campus in Mobile, AL. USA is a member of the Alabama Marine and Environmental Sciences Consortium at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab (www.disl.edu) and opportunities to utilize facilities at the Sea lab are available.
