Assistant Professor, Marine Ecology/Marine Fisheries
The School of Marine and Environmental Sciences at the University of South Alabama (USA) (https://www.southalabama.edu/colleges/artsandsci/marinesciences/) seeks applicants for a full-time (9-month), tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of Marine Ecology or Marine Fisheries. We seek individuals whose teaching and research focus on the ecology of marine vertebrates (fish, birds, mammals, etc.). Applicants whose research supports restoration, conservation, or sustainable management of economically important species are particularly encouraged to apply. Research approaches can include field based, experimental, population genetics, modeling, or other novel and applicable approaches. USA’s School of Marine and Environmental sciences and the Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL, www.disl.edu) have an established reputation as leaders in marine ecology and fisheries research, and we seek an applicant who complements these existing strengths. The successful applicant will assist in the design and implementation of a new B.S. program in Marine Sciences as well as mentor graduate students in multiple graduate degree programs (M.S. in Marine Conservation and Resource Management, M.S. in Environmental Toxicology, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Marine Sciences). A Ph.D. in marine sciences, ecology, fisheries, or other closely related field is required. Post-doctoral experience is preferred. The successful applicant should be able to teach graduate and upper-level undergraduate courses related to the applicant’s field of study (e.g., fish biology, quantitative fisheries science, ecology of higher vertebrates). Expectations for research are high in the School of Marine and Environmental Sciences. and applicants should demonstrate clear potential for success in the grantsmanship, publication, and graduate mentoring.
