Job Details

Postdoc Position in Department of Biology & Biochemistry at the University of Houston
A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Biology and Biochemistry, University of Houston, Houston, TX in the laboratory of Dr. Seema Khurana. NIH funded projects in the laboratory involve evaluation of the role of the actin cytoskeleton and actin-binding protein in normal epithelial cell physiology and in disease involving loss of epithelial cell function such as inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer. The lab focus is on understanding how defects in the actin cytoskeleton impact cellular response to stress to initiate inflammatory bowel disease. Additional studies aim to understand how defects in cell migration impact intestinal repair mechanisms and promote metastatic disease. The lab uses multidisciplinary approaches that include biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, modulation of mouse models, and validation in human tissue. We are looking for a candidate with advanced molecular biology skills to include but not limited to PCR, qPCR, cloning, sequencing, gene knockdown, gene knockout, gene knock in, expressing proteins including mutant proteins of interest in mammalian cells using transfection and lentiviral expression systems. Research experience in the field of gastroenterology is desirable but not required. We are looking for self-motivated individuals to become involved in the exciting and challenging environment of the laboratory. The environment in the laboratory promotes interaction with the principal investigator and other members of the lab. Ph.D. or M.D. /Ph.D. in Molecular Biology/Cell Biology/Biochemistry/Physiology or related field is preferred. Salary will commensurate with experience. Please send recent CV/bio sketch with reference contacts by e-mail to Dr. Seema Khurana at skhurana@central.uh.edu
