Summary:

The Wilkes Honors College (WHC) of Florida Atlantic University (FAU) invites applications for a full-time (9-month) Instructor position in Chemistry beginning Fall 2022. This is a non-tenure track faculty rank with a career ladder.

The WHC (www.honorscollege.edu) is a selective liberal arts and sciences college within a large state university, located on FAU’s MacArthur Campus in the coastal town of Jupiter, Florida. The campus is an international hub for scientific research and is host to Max Planck Florida Institute, Scripps Research Institute Florida, and FAU’s own Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute. The WHC’s four-year curriculum is centered on the traditional disciplines in the liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on critical thinking, independent study, community-based internships, and interdisciplinary programs. The WHC is in a period of rapid growth, with 690 honors students and 42 full-time honors faculty members. FAU is among the most ethnically diverse universities in the United States, and the WHC has a diverse student body, faculty and staff.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate lab and lecture courses in chemistry, supervise honors theses and undergraduate research, advise undergraduate students, and provide service to the college and university. They will also have the opportunity to co-develop multidisciplinary courses with WHC faculty from across the liberal arts and sciences. The expected teaching load is 3/4.

We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The WHC is committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment and an educational experience that recognizes diversity and cultural competence as integral components of academic excellence. Candidates who can contribute to that goal are encouraged to apply and to identify their strengths in this area.
