The Carney Lab at the University of South Florida seeks a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct and publish research on mosquitoes at the intersection of geographic information systems (GIS), artificial intelligence (AI), and citizen science.

The researcher will work as part of an interdisciplinary team at USF, NASA, CDC, and international organizations on the NSF-funded project, "Surveillance and Control of Mosquito-Borne Diseases through Automated Species Identification and Spatiotemporal Modeling" https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=2014547.

This is a full-time, one-year position with the possibility of renewal. Ability to work remotely.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications:

A PhD in any related field and a record of publication.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in some aspects of GIS and/or AI. Specific desired expertise includes geospatial methods such as habitat modeling, spatial statistics, and spatiotemporal modeling, and/or machine learning approaches such as the recent Fourier neural operator and no-code platform Trinity. Experience with ESRI products as well as QGIS, SaTScan, and Python coding a plus. Some background in mosquito biology. A strong publication record in highly ranked peer-reviewed journals and ability to write well; researcher will be responsible for co-/authoring multiple papers.
