New Principal Investigator position in areas related to cutting-edge stem cell-based approaches to study neurodevelopmental diseases at the Research Center of Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Sainte-Justine and the Faculty of Medicine, Université de Montréal.

The Research Center of Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine (CHUSJ-RC), in partnership with the Department of Neurosciences of Université de Montréal (UdeM), is seeking applicants to fill a principal investigator position at the rank of Assistant Research Professor in the field of neurodevelopment. The applicant’s research program should address fundamental biological questions relevant to the physiopathology and management of neurodevelopmental disorders, including intellectual disability, autism and epilepsy. In particular, we seek applications from scientists who have strong expertise in the use of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and/or brain organoids and the study of these models with electrophysiological, imaging or genomic approaches.

CHUSJ is a reference center for the investigation of neurodevelopmental disorders in children. The new principal investigator will play a pivotal role in complementing the research strengths of the CHUSJ-RC in the area of neurodevelopment. Our « Brain and Child Development » research axis brings together several scientists who study the cellular and network mechanisms that underlie normal behavior and learning as well as the neuronal dysfunctions that are associated with epilepsy, intellectual disability and autism. Our researchers have access to a number of cutting-edge technological platforms (e.g. production of iPSC; gene editing; genomics; microscopy; brain imaging; biobanking; etc.). The successful candidate will thus be able to develop his/her research program in a rich scientific environment that offers many prospects for collaboration. The candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other research groups within the network of the Faculty of Medicine and the vibrant Montreal neurosciences community, which is one of the largest in North America. Montreal was named « the world’s best city for international students » in 2017. The city is ripe with « joie de vivre », great gastronomic offerings, an energetic and diverse cultural scene, and inviting outdoor activities.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree, with postdoctoral experience and a strong publication record. Candidates will be expected to develop an innovative, internationally recognized, and externally funded research program and contribute to teaching as well as to some administrative and academic activities at CHUSJ-RC and UdeM.

Applications must be submitted electronically to Dr. Janetta Bijl, Scientific Advisor, CHUSJ-RC ( Applications received by December 10, 2021 will be given priority consideration, but the position will remain open until filled. Completed applications will consist of a cover letter, curriculum vitae and a statement of research interests (2-page limit).
