Responsibilities

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Columbus, GA campus of Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM), invites applications for multiple tenure-track open rank faculty positions with an anticipated start date of January 2022. Areas of research focus include, but are not limited to neuroscience, toxicology, pharmacology, oncology, genetics, endocrinology immunology or microbiology. The successful candidate will have a strong record of scholarly activity and will be expected to build an extramurally-funded research program. In addition, candidates will be expected to participate in graduate medical education, with time protected for research. We highly encourage applications from individuals with a commitment to mentoring diverse groups in biomedical research. MUSM-Columbus will be completed in December 2021, and is a spacious and ultramodern facility, located on the banks of the beautiful Chattahoochee River. MUSM will provide competitive start-up packages and dedicated laboratory space furnished with state-of-the art equipment.

For over thirty years, MUSM has focused on training medical students to fulfill MUSM's mission of preparing healthcare professionals to meet the primary care and health care needs of rural and underserved Georgia residents and communities. As part of MUSM's mission to serve rural and underserved populations in Georgia, preference will be given to candidates whose research programs focus on issues important to rural Georgians, such as addiction and chronic diseases. MUSM-Columbus has also partnered with several members of the Columbus community that are engaged in multiple areas of clinical research. Those researchers interested in participating in clinical research with the Columbus community are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Successful candidates must have post-doctoral experience and hold a terminal degree (M.D or equivalent, Ph.D., etc.) from an accredited college/university, with a record of research productivity and a commitment to mentoring undergraduate, graduate and medical students in research. Preference will be given to those who currently possess extramural funding.
