St. Lawrence University seeks a qualified candidate for a one-year (potentially renewable for two additional years) Visiting Assistant Professor position in the Department of Environmental Studies. We seek candidates from any field within Environmental Studies and Sciences that complements (without duplicating) our current faculty scholarship and course offerings. Candidates engaged in work that addresses emerging environmental problems through a novel lens are preferred. Potential areas of interest are environmental justice/racism, climate change/environmental modeling, biodiversity loss, emerging pollution issues, novel/anthropogenic evolution, de-growth, and socio-environmental synthesis/resilience. Candidates utilizing art or creative writing to address emerging environmental problems are also encouraged to apply. Lastly, we encourage applicants from all career-levels to apply, including mid-career and emeriti who may wish to continue teaching in the liberal arts tradition. A Ph.D. at time of appointment is preferred but ABDs may be considered.

This person will teach two upper division courses in Environmental Studies per semester as well as participate in our nation-leading First-Year Program (total teaching load 3-3). The successful candidate will have an on-going program of research and published scholarship that may include undergraduate students, and demonstrate a commitment to teaching in the liberal arts. We encourage applications from candidates who bring diverse cultural, ethnic and national perspectives to their scholarship and teaching.

Interested applicants must apply online at http://employment.stlawu.edu uploading all required materials which are defined in the “special instructions to applicant” section.  Review of applications begins December 15, 2021, and will continue until the position is filled.  Questions about the position may be sent to Dr. Sara Ashpole (sashpole@stlawu.edu), Search Chair.

All offers of employment are contingent upon the finalist successfully passing a background (including criminal records) check.
