Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager or senior designee, the Research Associate I performs a variety of routine and increasingly semi complex specimen processing isolations in support of researchers. This position will be dedicated to processing human blood and fluid specimens in support of clinical research studies including the general research protocol IRB 07047.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Utilizing laboratory equipment and established protocols, performs a variety of research specimen processing techniques. Records and validates results for accuracy and completeness.
  • May modify protocols.
  • Assist in writing standard operating procedures and reports related to specimen processing.
  • Maintains records of work performed including results and methodology; utilizing records may calculate, graph and compile data.
  • Assists in further developing processing techniques and expertise in one or more areas relevant to research project.
  • Ensures that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with safety procedures and guidelines in handling, storage and disposal of materials.


Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Bachelor's degree in biological or related sciences.
  • 0-2 years of research/laboratory experience.


Additional Information:
  • To protect the health of patients and staff and to comply with new State of California mandates, City of Hope staff are required to show proof of full vaccination by September 30, 2021. Compliance is a condition of employment.
