Assistant Professor of Environment Science
Georgetown University
The Georgetown Environment Initiative (GEI) and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS)invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in Environmental Science. We are looking for an interdisciplinary scientist who applies geospatial and data analytic skills, including Geographic Information Science and remote sensing, to an understanding of environmental challenges.Our areas of interest are broad and include, but are not limited to, global and/or regional environmental change and its differential human impacts; ecosystem resilience, structure and function; conservation and biodiversity; urban environmental science; urban agriculture; food, energy, and water; socio-ecological systems modeling, and landscape ecology. Candidates focused on pressing environmental problems and their varied impacts within and across communities, nations or the world, coupled with strong creative problem-solving skills and enthusiasm for collaboration are encouraged to apply.
The faculty member will be tenured withinthe Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) and theGeorgetown Environment Initiative(GEI). We seek dedicated scientists who will be able to support, deepen, and enhance the important research and teaching in the above areas and to help develop new impactful programs and degrees around the environment.
The successful applicant will bring an interdisciplinary perspective to teaching and research; will be able to clearly communicate complex scientific data and concepts to broad specialist and non-specialist audiences; and will have a strong commitment to securing funding for building a successful research program. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to exceptional undergraduate and graduate teaching and would have the opportunity to shape the content of new courses and contribute to program development that meets the needs of the newly launched Master of Science in Environment and Sustainability Management (https://esm.georgetown.edu), in addition to other emerging interdisciplinary environmental programs and undergraduate degrees of the GEI.

All candidates must hold a PhD by the time of employment. The start date for this position is August 1, 2022.
