ASSISTANT PROFESSOR TENURE-TRACK POSITION

 

The College of Agriculture at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, invites applications from outstanding basic scientists for an academic year tenure-track assistant professor position in plant biology. Candidates addressing important fundamental questions in plant biology, broadly defined, including but not limited to developing and/or applying computational approaches, are encouraged to apply. We are interested in individuals working on molecular, organismal, or ecosystem levels in model systems, crops, or natural systems. This hiring is part of the Center for Plant Biology (CPB), which includes 37 faculty across multiple departments in the College of Agriculture and College of Science. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to choose a tenure home in the Department of Agronomy, Department of Biochemistry, Department of Botany and Plant Pathology, Department of Entomology, Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, or Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally-recognized research program, interact with diverse faculty, staff, and students across campus, and contribute to the further development of plant science as an area of excellence on the Purdue University campus.  The candidate will also teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses, and function as an active member of the departmental and university faculty.

In addition to plant biology, faculty can also participate in interdisciplinary graduate programs with focus areas in biophysics, biotechnology, cancer biology, chemical biology, computational biology, microbiology, and neuroscience. Core facilities for phenotyping, genomics, bioinformatics, microscopy, metabolomics, NMR, X-ray crystallography, flow cytometry, and proteomics are available. Substantial resources for field-based research are also available near campus and throughout the state.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field, including but not limited to plant, biological, computational, physical sciences or engineering, and at least two years of post-doctoral experience or its equivalent, a strong publication record, the potential to develop a vigorous, extramurally funded research program, and a commitment to both hypothesis-driven research and teaching excellence.
